Frequently asked questions

The Pittsburgh Petroleum Club will be a 501(c)(7) with a physical ‘home base’ of the Allegheny HYP Club building downtown across the street from the Hotel Monaco / Commoner Restaurant. This location provides a historic, professional setting to consolidate energy-related business lunches, dinners, happy hours, and events co-located with an established Club with a kitchen, full-service bar, and reciprocal relationships.

Most hydrocarbon-producing basins across the country, and many throughout the world, have established Petroleum Clubs where members can host events, business meals, and happy hours or have a quiet dinner with family. Examples include: Anchorage, AL, Bakersfield, CA, Long Beach, CA, Taft, CA, Denver, CO, Wichita, KS, Shreveport, LA, Lafayette, LA, Morgan City, LA, Billings, MT, OKC, OK, Tulsa, OK, Edmond, OK, San Antonio, TX, Houston, TX, Dallas, TX, Fort Worth, TX, Midland, TX, Lake Tyler, TX, and Casper, WY domestically and several others including Calgary, Lagos, and Malaysia. The Appalachian Basin was the first to sell oil in the 1800’s, continues to lead the world’s energy landscape, and deserves to have representation. Very few industry events in and around Pittsburgh are held in consistent locations or quiet, private clubs. The Pittsburgh Petroleum Club aims to offer a central location to hold many future industry events using these long-established clubs as precedent. The PPC will hold or sponsor events in other locations but intends to default to the Allegheny HYP.

We are still finalizing formal organizational documents but intend to start with two membership levels – full and associate. As we are co-locating with the Allegheny HYP Club, full membership of the HYP will be required to utilize full privileges including club reservation, meals, bar service, and reciprocal relationships. Associate members will not have the same privileges but will receive all information and have the ability to attend future events.

Once you determine your level of membership, someone within the membership committee will be in touch. If full membership is requested, Allegheny HYP requirements must be met. Most importantly, a member must have a 4-year degree. If you do not, but your spouse does, your spouse can hold the Allegheny HYP membership and you will be the full PPC member. Once an application is filled out and submitted, the packet will be reviewed by the membership committee and then voted on by the Allegheny HYP board at a monthly meeting.

Full individual membership to the PPC (comes with a full membership to the Allegheny HYP) will have 2 levels (both include a $500 one-time initiation fee):

Premium Membership (Age 35 or over) – $100.00 monthly dues and a separate $45.00 monthly minimum usage ($145 / month total)

Junior Membership (Age under 35) – $75.00 monthly dues and a separate $45.00 monthly minimum usage ($120 / month total)

Associate Membership (Petroleum Club event access only – $250 / year tentatively)

We are currently in discussions with the Allegheny HYP to provide corporate and individual memberships that provide full access to the physical club and the reciprocal relationships. We intend to offer both full and associate memberships for both classes, corporate and individual and will provide additional information as we formalize documents and requirements.

No. We are energy-focused and all sources and affiliated service and support industries are welcome. As many Petroleum Clubs exist yet are unaffiliated with one another, it makes sense to maintain the traditional name yet expand to include additional technologies.

We are still in discussions around this point but currently envision 2 buckets – event sponsors and formal PPC sponsors. Event sponsors will be event by event and formal PPC sponsors will likely include corporate membership and representation at the board level. Please let us know if interested. More information to follow.

Yes, we are currently building a site that will hold membership information, events, etc.
